Friday, May 30 marked Oceanside’s second  Bus-Bike-Car challenge. Cyclist Andy Telfer took on motor vehicle commuter Cliff Craven and the regularly scheduled BC Transit Bus route #90, driven by Peter. All three started at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre and finished at the Parksville Community and Conference Centre.

The results: Craven, driving his car, arrived in 13 minutes and 50 seconds. Telfer arrived in 23:45, and the bus finished in the usual time for the run, 24:30, with about 12 passengers on the bus when it arrived.

The Town of Qualicum Beach has won the 2014 edition of the Oceanside Civic Bike Challenge.
There were 36 cyclists who joined Mayor Westbroek compared to 32 cyclists who rode with Mayor Burger.
The Civic Bike Challenge trophy will be proudly on display at Qualicum Beach Town Hall.

Held as part of Bike Day in Canada, the 2 rides were a great success and attracted a wide range
of ages who all enjoyed riding their bikes. The Organizing Committee wishes to thank the local RCMP
who helped with both rides.
